Back in September of 2015 Apple announced the future of TV is apps. This will open up a whole new world of composing music and interacting with apps. The world has already embraced tablets, phones, and other hand held touch screen devices. It’s time we change the way we interact with the TV.

The first music instrument for iPhone to hit the Apple TV appstore is TWYST. Twyst for Apple TV lets you play and control the Twyst iOS instrument with the remote and I believe also from your iOS while running the app on the Apple TV screen. The only catch is old Apple TVs won’t run the new tvOS so you’ll have to upgrade your Apple TV 3rd gen to the latest version in order to get access to all the cool music apps that come out for tvOS.

FL Studio Mobile For iPad

App Attack Ep 003 “FL Studio Mobile IAA Animoog Midi Sequence” – Lots of viewers are asking if I would use an iPad when composing for TV shows. I have songs in several TV shows and I do use the iPad from time to time to get ideas started. My favorite app for sequencing midi sequences is FL Studio Mobile. I just really like the piano roll and editing features. They just make sense to me. I also like using IAA (Inter App Audio) when using FL Studio Mobile. IAA is Apple’s proprietary method of routing apps internally. I slammed this little jam down in about 20 minutes. I was inspired by a preset in Animoog. It was used subtly. Other sounds were from the FL Studio Mobile synth.

MultitrackStudio Audio Units

MultitrackStudio for iPad is the first audio/MIDI multi-track recording app to support audio unit. It comes with many high quality audio effects including a guitar amp simulator. Use this app as an AU audio unit host on your iPad. Audio Unit effects (Remaster for example) will open within this app in a custom window (as opposed to the old school IAA way as a separate app window).

Both audio and MIDI tracks can be edited. MIDI editing features include pianoroll, drum and score editors.
