Creating and producing music on iOS (iPad and iPhone) is very popular and it has been for many years. We know because we’ve been at this since the first gen iPhone. With this comes more and more content creators with Youtube channels for showcasing music production on iOS devices. Here are some of my favorite channels that demonstrate this 10+ year old medium for creating and producing music. Make sure you check them out and enjoy!

GSi VariSpeed is a simulation of the WEM Copicat IC-400 Belt Drive VariSpeed model, the first tape echo machine made by WEM with a DC capstan motor capable of changing speed, thus varying the delay time. GSi VariSpeed replicates the hardware instrument “as is” with all its pros and cons, without any additional feature. This can be considered as the second chapter of a tribute to the genius of Mr. Charlie Watkins that GSi began back in 2008 with the release of the freeware “WatKat”, which was a simulation of the “Custom Copicat”.     PatternBud is a MIDI CC sequencer for sequencing the patterns of your apps. If you are using a lot of Audio/MIDI apps with multiple patterns, then you can use PatternBud and sequence the patterns quickly.

    You can add multiple tracks to PatternBud. Each track has its own MIDI CC number and MIDI Channel. You can add unlimited steps to your tracks. Each step has a MIDI CC value which you can set by tapping the step. The steps can also have multiple actions as well. You can assign actions to your steps for jumping a random/specific step or jumping a random/specific pattern.

    You can control all the Bud apps as well as the other apps that support changing their patterns with MIDI CC or AU parameters. PatternBud is a MIDI app and it does not produce any audio. For the AUv3 plugin, you need an AUv3 host app such as AUM, Cubase, apeMatrix, BeatMaker etc.
