PhonoPaper For iPad

PhonoPaper is:
• format of graphical representation of the sound (music, human voice, etc.); in other words, it is the 2D audio barcode (by analogy with the QR-code);
• real-time PhonoPaper-code reader (using the camera);
• PhonoPaper-code generator (sound to image converter).

Key features:
• PhonoPaper-code is analogue, so it is not so sensitive to different types of the image distortion (bad camera, dark picture, wrinkled paper, etc.); at least you will hear the “silhouette” of the original sound;
• PhonoPaper does not require access to the network; its code is self-contained;
• PhonoPaper-code can be played in real-time with hand-controlled speed and direction;
• PhonoPaper-code can be drawn by hand (paper version of the Virtual ANS synth);
• PhonoPaper is free!

Examples of usage:
• voice messages (or pieces of music) on the billboards, posters, postcards, goods;
• audio labels for phonorecords;
• audio examples in some textbooks;
• art-experiments;
• learning the basics of the spectral music.

PhonoPaper is based on the Virtual ANS engine – it is a software simulator of the unique Russian synthesizer ANS. So if you want to make more complex PhonoPaper-codes – use the Virtual ANS.

Default PhonoPaper-code length is 10 seconds. But you can make it shorted or longer – playing speed can be changed manually.

PhonoPaper is available for FREE

Bluetooth Compatible Synth Keyboard For iOS
Author View comments Tags Tags: , , ,

Nice-To-Be-Your-Friend-Synth

Nice To Be Your Friend is an inexpensive synth keyboard with some unique features. There are two keyboards to play, with the top keyboard rotating around so that you can make music with a friend. What is played on one keyboard is highlighted on the other, so that you can share songs, and improvise new music.

The app is universal, and features more than one hundred sounds from an amazing SoundFont engine. The app is polyphonic and multi-timbral. Warm pianos, electric and acoustic bass, guitars, strings, and even synthesizer tones — a huge array of instruments, all at your fingertips in one app.

With full support for both MIDI input and output, you can use NTBYF to control other iOS synthesizers, or use a sequencer to trigger sounds from the app. There’s even Audiobus support, allowing you to easily record your music, or to send the sounds through the wide range of filtering and effects apps.

The app also has an integrated Apollo MIDI over Bluetooth “A” endpoint, letting you send MIDI wirelessly between a pair of iOS devices, or between iOS and a Mac. This will require the Apollo app running on the other device — the Mac version of Apollo is free, so it’s easy to try out. Once you’ve experienced the low latency of MIDI over Bluetooth, you’ll never want to use WiFi MIDI again. Bluetooth LE is available only on the iPad mini, iPad 3 and newer, and the iPhone 4S and newer; this feature is not available on the iPad 1 or 2, and on earlier iPhones.

  • iPad Loops is an iOS music production blog dedicated to exposing the best iPad apps musicians, producers, and Djs. This is not a database of every app. It is, however, one of useful recommendations from someone with many years in music production. I try to update it on a daily basis (ok sometimes every two days) and I do my best to post useful apps only. My name is Jason Donnelly (Dj Puzzle). Some of the apps that contain my sounds are Synth One, EG Segments, Hammerhead, Retronyms AudioCopy, Audio Evolution Mobile, and iMPC Pro. My work is published by Roland, Antares, Magix, Soundtrack Loops, Sample Logic, Acoustica, Native Instruments, The Grammt Museum and many more.
