GoBeats Free Drum App For iOS By Positive Grid
Author View comments Tags Tags: , , , , ,

GoBeats

My quick and dirty demo review of GoBeats by Positive Grid. GoBeats is the world’s first free artificial intelligence drum app for iOS. I put this new app to the test today. GoBeats by Positive grid. Says it’s the world’s first artificial intelligence drum app. What this app does is listens to your playing and then tries to come up with a drum accompaniment. I got several different results from it. I played the same riff several times and most of the time I got decent results. The one in this video was my favorite. There were a couple tries where the groove didn’t have the right about of swing and feel to it and there were a couple tried where the tempo was off. Overall this is a decent drum companion. I like how it plays fills and adds dynamics by switching up to a ride cymbal. Is it really artificial intelligence? Well that might be a stretch. It does listen to the riff and seems to pick up on it pretty quick. Would like different kits to choose from. It doesn’t have a save or freeze option so if you get a groove you like and hit learn by accident that groove will be lost. Would be nice if we could export the groove as a midi. A count off or pre-count would be cool before the groove starts playing.

Following up on the success of Ruismaker, here’s her crazy twin-sister, designed for people who want to design their own percussion sounds from scratch.

Ruismaker FM’s flexible synthesis engine lets you create anything from snaredrums, kickdrums and spacy toms to weird and unconventional percussive sounds and effects.

Works conveniently inside your sequencer and Audio Unit Instrument hosts so you can focus on making electronic music without app switching and screen juggling like before.

PPG Phonem iPad Quick Start Guide Tutorial

The following is a quick start guide for the PPG Phonem iPad voice synthesizer app by Wolfgang Palm. Now if you’re like me you just got this app and said where do I start? It’s a very deep complicated app and I’ve only spent a couple hours with it today so here are some real basic instructions to get Phonem singing for you. There is so much more to this app and it’s capabilities are amazing so please use this video as a starting point and let me know what you have accomplished with the app in the comments below!

How to make singing voices with PPG Phonem

PPG Phonem lets the user create expressive vocal synthesis beyond anything ever heard before. With its advanced routing system every aspect of the voice can be controlled and modulated in any conceivable way. Anything from a quiet whisper to a scream. Use the intuitive text to speech tool to make Phonem say whatever you want.

Although the PPG Phonem was originally designed to do just vocal synthesis, it turned out that the system was also capable of producing a wide range of universal synthsizer sounds. So we extended the parameter ranges and made everything accessible to the user, to take advantage of this fact.

Keith McMillen QuNeo Midi Controller

QuNeo is a different species of pad controller for electronic musicians, DJs, VJs and DIY hackers. While it covers all of the functionality of other pad controllers, QuNeo adds the power of touch recognition in other dimensions. Each of the 27 pads, sliders and rotary sensors are pressure, velocity, and location sensitive. Even the 17 switches respond to how hard you press. 16 square pads provide 127 levels of Velocity response, X-Y location, and continuous pressure. 2 rotary sensors allow you to scrub, trigger, stretch, pinch and play phrases and sound files, manipulate continuous controllers and more. Each rotary sensor measures angle, pressure and distance from the center. 9 touch sensitive sliders can be mapped to fader and effects controls. LEDs within each slider act as VU meters or remind you where you were. Multi-touch lets you select a length between two fingers to set stereo locations or filter resonances. Tapping a slider can mute or toggle any track or function. Switches are located in smart groupings to select samples, fader banks, and transport controls. Each of the switches can scan up and down through files at speeds variable with your touch. QuNeo is the size of an iPad and can fit in iPad accessories such as mic clips, stands and more. QuNeo works with USB, MIDI or OSC and will communicate with your favorite music software environments right out of the box. More advanced users and programmers can use the development kit and API to create their own code to respond to QuNeo’s sensor data. KMI MIDI Expander (sold separately) allows connection to MIDI hardware via 5-pin connection.

Features:

44 pads, sliders, rotaries & switches
Pressure, velocity & position sensitive
251 multi-color LEDs give visual feedback
Communicates via USB, MIDI, or OSC
The size of an iPad, weighs just 14oz

I try to update it on a daily basis (ok sometimes every two days) and I do my best to post useful apps only. My name is Jason Donnelly (Dj Puzzle). Some of the apps that contain my sounds are Synth One, EG Segments, Hammerhead, Retronyms AudioCopy, Audio Evolution Mobile, and iMPC Pro.
