* MIDI Looping
There are dozens of audio looping apps; Infinite Looper expands on this idea, allowing you to quickly select different synthesizers, and loop the MIDI to each with perfect synchronization. Each of the instruments can have up to eight simultaneous loops. The loops can be of different lengths, up to sixtyfour measures long.

* Internal SoundFont Engine
Built into the app is an extensive SoundFont library with hundreds of instruments, and multiple drum kits. Pianos, strings, guitar, brass, synthesizers — it’s all there. Everything you need to get going right away.

The iPad is an excellent music sketch pad, but it’s not the end of the road. Infinite Looper will export a MIDI file for a song, which can be loaded into professional desktop DAWs. Use your iPad to put together a demo, and then bring in the full set of studio tools to finish your masterpiece.

* Keyboards and Pads
The app features a responsive piano-style keyboard — adjust note velocity by touching towards the tops of the keys. And because on-screen keyboards can be hard to play, there’s also ten pages of programmable pads. You can quickly assign notes or chords to pads, making it easy to capture the progression for a song idea, and bring the whole thing into focus.

* Quantization and MIDI Latency
To lock down timing, you can toggle on quantization — or leave it off, for a loose, natural feeling. If you use external MIDI controllers, there can be latency in the MIDI messages — the app can time shift slight to account for the delay of Bluetooth connections or WiFi. And if you use an audio-to-MIDI converter app like MIDImorphosis, latency compensation can tighten up the timing.

Fugue Machine Adds Play Head Midi Routing

Fugue-Machine

The beloved Fugue Machine app update is the answer to your wishes. FUGUE MACHINE is a tool inspired by composition techniques used in Baroque music and Serialism — e.g. Bach’s canons and fugues, and Schoenberg’s twelve-tone technique. The idea was to design a tool to manipulate a melody’s speed, direction, and pitch, as well as play multiple variations of the melody simultaneously.

What’s New in Version 1.2.0

NEW FEATURES

PER-PLAYHEAD MIDI ROUTING!
You can now independently route each playhead to any MIDI Channel, allowing the playheads to control separate apps or MIDI devices. Go to Settings > Midi Output Settings > Output Channels for more info.

FASTER, STRONGER, MORE PUNCTUAL
Thanks to a complete rewrite of the sequencer code (I obsessed over this for far too long), Fugue Machine is now about 4 times faster and MIDI timing is now as tight as computationally possible. Very proud of this :]

SEND MIDI PROGRAM CHANGES
You can now (optionally) send MIDI Program Changes to the MIDI Destination when you change patterns. When enabled, there will be a “PC” button next to each pattern in the PATTERNS Menu. When you press this button, the pattern will change and a Program Change Message will be sent to the MIDI Destination. Go to Settings > MIDI Output Settings > Send Program Changes.

ABLETON LINK OFFSET SETTING
When Ableton Link is enabled, you now have millisecond control over phase offset — allowing you to compensate for potential audio and midi latency introduced by your setup. Go to Settings > Ableton Link Settings > Offset for more info.

NEW ALBUM: LIVE SETS
I’ve added another album to the Music section! It only has one recording at the moment — a live set I performed with Fugue Machine and Patterning controlling a bunch of hardware synthesizers — but more will be added soon.

BUG FIXES

EDITING NOTE + PATTERN CHANGE BUG
If you loaded a pattern while editing a note on the piano roll (yes, a corner case’s corner case), you’d find yourself controlling the loaded patterns selected notes. This was weird, and doesn’t happen anymore.

LAUNCH FROM IAA HOST BUG
Fugue Machine would hang when being launched from an Inter-App Audio host, requiring you to open it before adding it to your IAA session. Fixed now :]

Sidecar Midi Controller

Sidecar is designed to work with the slide-over and split-view features of iOS 9 on the iPad — pair it with DAWs, synthesizers, sequencers, audio loopers, or guitar amp simulators, to add quick and easy control of settings, trigger notes and chords, and more. Sidecar supports external Bluetooth keyboards and game controllers.

* Easy MIDI Configuration
With ten separately configurable MIDI destinations you can quickly set up a set of assignments for each of the MIDI apps that you use. Have a set of chords for Animoog, choose different presets for ToneStack, or assign pads to different samples for DM1. Each MIDI destination has ten configurable pads, which can be assigned to chords, single notes, a program change message, or a controller change message. For notes and chords, the touch position controls note velocity. For controller change messages, the location of a touch on screen can be used to determine the controller value.

* QWERTY Keyboard Support
Toggle on support for the external keyboard, and you can switch between the ten MIDI destinations quickly (using the keys in the QWERTY row). Toggle on or off any of the ten pads by pressing the number keys. The two lowest rows of keys are mapped as a standard piano keyboard, providing a musical play surface with an ordinary text keyboard. Note that QWERTY keyboards only send “key press” information to your iPad — to silence a sounding note, you simply tap the space bar.

* Game Controller Ready
Sidecar also supports the iON iCade game controller, mapping the buttons of the iCade to the pads. Because the iCade was designed for games, it sends button press and release information, which makes it easy to toggle on and off the pads.

* MIDI Relay
If you have an external MIDI controller, you can have it send MIDI events to Sidecar — and these will be relayed to any of the ten MIDI destinations you select. Use this to quickly switch from one synth to another.

*Control Background Synths
Because Sidecar sends MIDI messages, it can be used to control background synthesizers, sequencers, and effects apps.

* Guitarists!
Sidecar is a great companion to the pitch-to-MIDI app MIDImorphosis — you can set up the mapping to control processing of notes, and to toggle between polyphonic and monotonic mode, or to toggle on and off support for pitch bend. MIDImorphosis has opened up a world of synthesis to guitarists, and Sidecar makes it even better. Because Sidecar uses MIDI, you can have MIDImorphosis in the background, and still control it. And with support for QWERTY keyboards, you have an inexpensive remote pedal controller. The app is a great addition to guitar effects apps too.

Sidecar is designed to work along side your other iOS music apps, and takes advantage of the latest features of iOS 9. For slide-over, you must have an iPad Air or an iPad Mini 2 or better. For split-view, you’ll need and iPad Air2 or an iPad Pro.
