BeatStudio iPhone & iPad App By Frontier Design Group
Author View comments Tags Tags: , , , ,

From the developer Frontier Design Group (iShred & GuitarStudio). We’re wrapping up work on our newest iOS music app, BeatStudio. We’ve had a lot of requests for an easy to use, but powerful percussion app to accompany iShred and GuitarStudio. BeatStudio is a universal app that works equally well on your iPhone, iPod touch and your iPad.

BeatStudio is a fun, easy, and yet powerful app. Whether you’re playing live with your iPhone band or sitting down to make a multi-layered percussion backing track for your guitar songs, we’ve got you covered.

30 Professionally sampled percussive instruments

Ranging from standard drum kit drums and cymbals, to shakers, sleigh bells and even a vibraslap! The selection of sounds will fill all your percussion needs. Each instrument has been sampled at a variety of volume and hit intensities, which you can adjust to get just the sound you need.

Customizable Instrument Layout

The playing and recording screen holds from six to twenty instruments of your choice. This flexibility allows for a clean interface for songs ranging from simple to complex, and anything in between. There’s even a menu lock for performing live or when you want to hand it over to your budding three year old percussionist.

Recording

Record your performance, with each recording appearing as a separate track in the track arrangement screen. Multi-track recording, and the ability to loop track clips makes it easy to add repeating elements throughout your song. To make your song beat-perfect, you can adjust the metronome and quantize settings – including BPM, beats per bar, the number of sub-beats and quantize strength.

Editing

Not only can you rearrange your recorded tracks, but you can edit anything you have recorded, moving individual instrument events around within a recording, adding new instruments and events, or deleting an accidental sound. This powerful editing tool also uses the quantize settings to make it easy to put your beats in the right place. There’s a great undo system that will help you recover from accidents or even edits that just didn’t work out.

Backing Tracks

It’s easy to play along with your favorite song, or one of your other musical creations as a backing track. Import from your iPod library, WiFi, iTunes, or AudioCopy/AudioPaste to play along with recordings from other Frontier Design Group apps (and other compatible iOS apps). If there is a tricky section that you want to figure out the best beat pattern for, the backing track player features a variable speed slider, so you can slow down (or even speed up) your backing track. After you’ve mastered it, slide the speed back to 1x and all of your recordings follow suit.

Garageband For iPad

Garageband For iPad

Rebuilt to take advantage of the iPad’s large multi-touch screen, GarageBand for iPad turns the Apple device into a host for a collection of musical instruments and a full-featured recording studio, making it easy to create music on the go.

Using multi-touch gestures, you can play a collection of Touch Instruments and Smart Instruments, or create an original song using the app’s powerful eight-track recording studio.

GarageBand for iPad features a number of Touch Instruments, Smart Instruments, a recording studio, and easy sharing functions. With the Touch Instruments — drums, drum machines, keyboards, and synthesizers — you can play expressive musical instruments designed for multi-touch technology, which sound and play just like their real counterparts but let you do things you could never do on a real instrument.

Three acoustic drum kits are included, with snare, kick, toms, hi-hat, and cymbals that produce different tones depending on where and how hard you tap them. You can also perform on electronic drum kits by tapping “drum pads” inspired by a classic drum machine interface. The keyboard section includes a grand piano, an organ, and a synthesizer, each with a unique sound, distinctive look, and customizable performance characteristics; hard taps are louder and soft taps are quieter. The synthesizers section offers over 70 modern and vintage synthesizer sounds, including synth strings, leads, basses, and more. You can use the Arpeggiator to create rich melodies and soundscapes with a single finger.

When it comes to Smart Instruments, GarageBand for iPad has you covered. The app includes Smart guitars, keyboards, basses, and drums. With these instruments on hand, you can strum chords on acoustic and electric guitars, trigger fingerpicking and strumming patterns, or tap out your own riffs and melodies. Also play a range of keyboard instruments by tapping on pre-selected chords designed sound great together, no matter what you play. With the Smart bass, you can perform bass lines and grooves simply by tapping on strings, or switch to Notes view to play individual notes on a virtual bass neck. Drag and drop snares, kicks, and hi-hats to create your own beats, and move them around to try out different patterns.

In the app’s eight-track recording studio, arrange and mix your songs with different tracks, guitar amps, stompbox effects, and recordings. Create a song by trimming and arranging musical regions exactly where you want them to play; and swipe to reveal the mixer to fine-tune each track for the perfect mix.

To use the built-in guitar amps, just plug a guitar into your iPad to access nine classic and modern amps. In addition to amps, you can choose from ten stompbox effects to create your favorite sounds, and add or reorder stompboxes on your own pedalboard. Lastly, the onboard audio recorder lets you record your voice or any acoustic sound using the built-in microphone on the iPad. After capturing your audio, you can then apply any one of eight sound effects.

With GarageBand for iPad, you can email your song directly from your iPad, or export and add your song to your iTunes library. You can even send a project to your Mac and open it in GarageBand to keep refining your song.

Reactable Mobile App

Improvise and create music playfully with the Reactable mobile. Based on the award winning Reactable as used by Björk on her Volta Tour, this application brings the full creative power of the famous interactive instrument onto your mobile device. It uses concepts of modular synthesis, sampling, digital audio effects, DJing, and combines them with modern human computer interaction and multi-touch technology.

*Reactable Mobile* enables you not only to create your own sound tables but also to act as producer by remixing tables of fellow Reactable musicians, adding your personal touch and share it again in a seamless way.

Based on the very same audio and graphics engine as the Reactable, the mobile version brings a complete range of objects to multi-touch devices:

• Generate sound with a set of generator objects including are loop players, synthesizers, oscillators and input object.
• Modify generated sounds with a set of effect objects including wave shapers, delays, modulators and filters.
• Modify other objects parameters with a set of controller objects including sequencers, LFOs and accelerometer.
• Modify the settings of the entire table with a set of global objects including tempo, volume and tonalizer.

The new version gives you mobile access to the brand new *Reactable Community* where you’ll be able to listen and remix tracks created by your friends and musicians, to watch videos of their performances, to comment and to share your favorites.

A set of effects to modify generated sounds:
• wave shapers: distortion, compression, and resampling,
• delays: reverb, feedback, and ping-pong,
• modulators: ring modulation, chorus, and flanger,
• filters: low pass, high pass, and band pass.

A set of controller objects to modify other objects parameters:
• sequencers, with step-by-step, matrix, or random modes,
• low frequency oscillators (LFO), with different waveforms,
• accelerometer, to fetch data from the movement of the device.

A set of global objects to modify the settings of the entire table:
• tempo, to change the speed of the table,
• volume, to lower or increase the loudness,
• tonalizer, to change the harmony of the melody.

Note: as this application uses both graphic and audio resources extensively, recent devices will provide the best user experience.
