Music Apps Blog

A Music App Blog For Today’s iOS Musician

iPad Loops was the first music apps blog to feature cutting edge music production apps and instruments apps by an actual professional in the music app industry. It was founded in 2010 by Jason Donnelly (Dj Puzzle). Donnelly was part of the Sound Trends team as their content producer and consultant. Most of the loops for Sound Trends apps (Looptastic, Meta Dj, Studio HD, and Gruvtron) were created by Jason. Sound Trends was later sold to Native Instruments.

This music apps blog focuses on useful professional level apps. It’s not just another database of every app or a new site for every tiny update. We want YOU to know about the latest and greatest music production apps and updates.

megaman

Here is a list of some really great apps for producing Chiptune music. Let us know if you can think of some more!

Nanoloop for iPhone combines sequencer, synthesizer and sampler in one package. It provides all functions for creating electronic music from scratch. http://ipadloops.com/gameboy-nanoloop-for-iphone/

MicroSynth is exactly that, a tiny synth based on a wonderful Micro Computer which is now on the verge of being 30 years old! All of the sounds you hear are actual samples taken from a real Micro and all of the sounds were programmed by Pixelh8. I hope you you enjoy making music with this MicroSynth. http://ipadloops.com/free-bbc-micro-computer-synth-app-for-iphone/

NESynth By newforestar co,.ltd NESynth is a synthesizer that simulated 8 bit sound of video games in the 80′s. http://ipadloops.com/8-bit-chiptune-for-iphone/

8Bit Studio – the only circuit bent 8bit SID synth for your iphone! Customize your patterns using the built in step sequencer or play live on the retractable keyboard then bend and distort the sound using the touch contacts! http://ipadloops.com/8-bit-chiptune-studio-for-iphone/

Bleep – Chiptune drum app for iPhone. Draw 16 steps of pitch and wavetable modulation to create chip-tune sounds and effects, then sequence them to make retro video game like beats http://ipadloops.com/bleep-chiptune-drum-app-for-iphone/

SidTracker64

SidTracker64 is the ultimate chiptune production package tool for the iPad. It emulates the SID sound chip from the dominating home computer of the 80s – The Commodore 64.

Get started immediately with the bundled songs and sounds in various styles, from old skool bleeps n blips to new school with multi speed and advanced table editing. Explore, remix and make new songs based on the old classic c64 game tracks “Commando” by Rob Hubbard or “Blood Money” by Fredrik Segerfalk, and the brand new youtube remix hit of the “True Survivor” Kung Fury soundtrack, all included in the app.

SidTracker64 is a retro-style music creation tool and synthesizer combined with modern features such as midi keyboard and controller input, Audiobus 2 and Inter App Audio for recording in your favourite DAW-app. Midi clock in lets you sync to other apps and hardware drum machines and synthesizers, such as the Elektron Analog Four.

SidTracker 64 can be used for live looping, making complete songs, and the minimum latency makes it suitable for live use. Export your music to Dropbox and e-mail as audio or .sid and even .prg files which you can run on a real Commodore 64.

Editing is based on hands on touch interaction or midi input instead of the hardcore style of direct data editing. Record live to a metronome or input notes step-style. Real SID-composing has never been simpler and more fun.

  • iPad Loops is an iOS music production blog dedicated to exposing the best iPad apps musicians, producers, and Djs. This is not a database of every app. It is, however, one of useful recommendations from someone with many years in music production. I try to update it on a daily basis (ok sometimes every two days) and I do my best to post useful apps only. My name is Jason Donnelly (Dj Puzzle). You might know me from my royalty free loop packs and sound design. Some of the apps that contain my sounds are Synth One, EG Segments, Hammerhead, Retronyms AudioCopy, Audio Evolution Mobile, LP-5, iPRO.DJSAMPLER, Looptastic. My work is published by Roland, Antares, Magix, Soundtrack Loops, Sample Logic, Acoustica, Loopmasters and many more. Subscribe to our RSS feed below to get updated when new apps are posted.
