FAC Envolver Envelope Follower
Author View comments Tags Tags: , , , , ,

FAC Envolver is an envelope follower, this implies that it tracks the contour of the input signal and builds a corresponding envelope. Think of the envelope as the outline of the graphical representation of a rectified version of your input signal. By its very essence, it’s exactly what you get. But the process does not stop there and gives you the ability to modify the shape according to a set of provided parameters.

So it’s possible to define the rise and fall time as well as the depth of the envelope or also to invert it. Those parameters are the key to ensure the flexibility of the effect, and to meet the goal you are looking for.

The previous lines are more a general presentation of what an envelope follower does, but the particularity of FAC Envolver, which makes it an outstanding and versatile tool, is that it delivers the envelope via MIDI control change messages or commonly referred to as CC.

The key is to map the CC number parameter to the volume, cutoff, resonance control of your synthesizer or effect units. By doing so you will get instant additional hands to tweak your parameters automatically depending on what you are currently playing.

The internal signal path is built around two independant channels, having one envelope circuit detection per input signal. So the left input signal is wired to the envelope one, and the right input signal is wired to the envelope two.

FAC Envolver will breathe life into your sound, providing interesting natural modulation that will always be different by nature.

• Tips!
An envelope follower has a lot of usage, the most famous is probably the ducking or sidechain effect. The trick is to invert the envelope and map it to a VCA receiver. Whenever an input signal is present, the envelope is generated and the sound controlled by the VCA is attenuated accordingly. The advantage is that we don’t need to sync anything as the follower will output what it receives.

Have a look at the “sidechain” preset and use it as template. Note that it’s very important to set the gain of the input signal by setting properly the input gain parameter provided. Use the waveform viewer provided to have an idea of the current level.

Stereo Modulator For Mono Tracks
Author View comments Tags Tags: , , , , , ,

Ran my Les Paul through this new mono to stereo audio unit effect called Stereo Modulator. PUT YOUR HEADPHONES ON! Honestly I wish I didn’t feel rushed with this video I wanted to make it longer but figured folks might just want to hear the modulation part of it on a guitar. My wife was giving the baby a bath and she started crying so I just said screw it and made the demo short. It has a very clean widening effect with the modulation LFO down.

Stereo Modulator is an AU3 effect that converts mono sound into stereo, with an adjustable width and optional stereo modulation.

It works by using a bank of randomized stereo de-correlators that apply micro-delays introduce random differences between the spectrums of the left and right audio channels. In its output we hear a natural sense of space that is not present in mono recordings. It’s similar to the sound space one gets from using a stereo reverb plugin except that it is tight and clear, without any feeling of echo.

It can operate either as a static effect or it can be gently modulated by a low-frequency oscillator. The modulation is akin to the sound of a Leslie speaker, except that it doesn’t do any pitch shifting, so the output remains focused and tuning is not compromised.

This effect is especially useful for mixing electric guitars together with vocals. Using Stereo Modulator on the guitars, we can push them out to the sides, creating a space in the centre for the vocal to cut through, without needing to reduce the volume of the guitars.

NOTE: Stereo Modulator is an AU3 plugin only, not a standalone app. To use it, you will need an audio unit host app such as Garageband or Audiobus.

Audio Damage ADverb2 for ios

ADverb2 is an accurate model of a vintage digital plate reverb rack unit from the 80s, with a few modern tricks up its sleeve. From short, thick, rich reverbs ideal for drums on up to incredibly long heavily chorused, echoey spaces perfect for ambient music, ADverb2 is an excellent addition to your sonic toolkit.

ADverb2 works as a stand-alone effect, with Inter-App Audio, but we recommend its use as an AUv3 plugin in a host that supports the format like Beatmaker 3, AUM, Cubasis, GarageBand, etc.

Adverb2 for iOS

» Simple-to-use reverb settings, with pre-delay, time, and size, plus an extensive filtering section to shape the reverb tail.

» Logical vintage-style user interface, vector-based for resizability and future-proofing.

» XML-based cross-platform preset manager, with copy and paste. (You can even move presets between the iOS version and the desktop version with Handoff.)

» Optimized reverb algorithm for low CPU load.

  • iPad Loops is a music app blog dedicated to exposing the best iPad apps for iOS musicians, producers, and Djs. This is not a database of every app. It is, however, one of useful recommendations from someone with many years in music production. I try to update it on a daily basis (ok sometimes every two days) and I do my best to post useful apps only. My name is Jason Donnelly (Dj Puzzle). You might know me from my royalty free loop packs and sound design. Some of the apps that contain my loops are Retronyms AudioCopy, LP-5, iPRO.DJSAMPLER, Looptastic, and Audio Elements. My work is published by Magix Soundtrack Loops, Sample Logic, Pakotec, Loopmasters, Acoustica, Xmix, Sound Trends, and many more.
