JAX Unisonic

JAX Unisonic is a special Audio Unit, able to produce up to 8 additional voices from any audio input (also polyphonic audio) by multiplying and shifting it in pitch and other parameters. Audio Units require a host application for operation.

The concept of JAX Unisonic is loosely derived from ‘Unison’ which was adopted from the ancient analog synthesizer world, where manufacturers and sound designers intended to fatten the sound by multiplying and stacking available voices together. Also digital synthesizers did adopt this technique to fatten sound sources.

Due to the instability of analog oscillators and components and some wilful detuning, an interesting sonic effect is achieved, giving the produced tones significantly more presence and life. Unison voices are still excessively used in modern music styles today. (In classical music compositions ‘unisono’ basically means a performance, where multiple instruments or voices play the same parts in an ensemble fashion.)

Technical

Now JAX Unisonic can simulate this sonic effect with any audio source by incorporating a bank of independent time domain pitch shifters, that are optimized to detune and spread artificially multiplied voices in panorama. It can be understood as a kind of super chorus generator or an ensemble like effect with variable, realtime controlled intensity and pitch relation. But it is clearly something more.

With JAX Unisonic you can create up to 8 additional voices, that will be passed thru a chain of pitching and positioning, creating massively fattened sounds with any kind of voice input. Additionally you may transpose each voice individually per semitone to max. +/- 1 octave, something that cannot be achieved with usual choruses, unison or ensemble effects and moves the results slightly in the direction of the category “harmonizer” effects. Although the harmonic results can be programmed (automated) freely and are not auto generated in any way, as on some available other harmonizers.

The used pitch shifters in our JAX Unisonic are NOT based on the phase vocoder paradigm (FFT) and do not introduce the static latencies, which are unavoidable by the latter. A time domain pitch shifter in contradiction, uses very small delay buffers, where the latency is dynamically adjusted (dependent on the used pitch shifting amount) and much smaller and nearly latency-free. Such pitch shifters are better situated for live usage therefore. Although, such pitch shifters sound slightly more raw and tend to produce disharmonic overtones with more extreme values.

Usage

JAX Unisonic may be used as a massive unison effect generator or more decently for creating various, more subtile effects for improving sonic qualities of parts in a composition. For instance controlled voice detuning, manual pitch correction, doubling of vocals or solo instruments or just to give some boring voices more interest and static sound some special movement. It is even usable with drums, adding subtile or even massive new frequency components.

Audio Damage Discord4 Multi Effects
Author View comments Tags Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

Discord4 is the latest version of our most popular and long-lived product, our Discord stereo pitch shifter. Originally modeled from the H910, Discord has long since become its own effect and a studio standby, and this version includes major additions to further stretch its capabilities. This application includes a stand-alone version (with Inter-App Audio) and an AUv3 effect for use in hosts that support that format, such as Beatmaker 3, AUM, Cubasis, and Garageband. A full PDF manual is available at the Audio Damage website.

Discord4 consists of three separate algorithms: a “vintage” mode (the original Discord algorithm, modeled on the Eventide H910 and H949), a “clean” mode for more modern shifting sounds, and a “granular” mode for experimental effects. Each mode has its strengths, depending on the input material, and Discord3 has a broad palette of capabilities as a result. The P1 and P2 algorithms have full control over the buffer (window) size of the shift effect, for fine tuning the shift to the input signal, or for stranger sound effects. At the extremes of the six-octave shift range, some truly strange aliasing and artifacts can be had with this control.

Discord4 retains its pair of tempo-synced delays and bandpass filters from previous versions, and adds a reverb in the feedback loop (for easy access to “shimmer” effects). We have also replaced the modulation sources from the original with our all-new FLFO (Flexible LFO) design. Panorama controls are included to control the stereo width of the wet signal. Finally, soft saturation and limiting have been added or improved throughout the signal path, for an overall improved sound and added vintage-style warmth, and to allow for extreme feedback experiments without fear of overloading your DAW’s channel.

Features

• Pitch Shifting: Discord4 contains a pair of shifters with three separate algorithms (Vintage, Clean, and Granular) for different styles of pitch shifting.

• Buffer Size Control: The P1 (Vintage) and P2 (Clean) algorithms have a Buffer Size control, from 32 to 2048 samples, for fine-tuning the pitch shifting effect.

• Delay: Tempo-synced or free-running delays with feedback, cross-feedback, and a sophisticated bandpass filter.

• Reverb: A simple stereo reverb is added to the feedback path, for “shimmer” effects and further sound exploration.

• Modulation: Two of our new FLFO (Flexible Low-Frequency Oscillator) with tempo sync and an arbitrary waveform, capable of a nearly infinite number of modulation shapes using only three controls.

• True Stereo Operation: Discord4 has a true stereo signal path, with entirely independent control over each side, finishing with panorama settings for stereo width.

• MIDI Note Control: Six octaves of pitch-shifting can be controlled with MIDI note input.

• All-New GUI: Vector-based resizable user interface.

• Presets: Cross-platform XML-based preset manager.

iDelirium Voice App For iPhone and iPad

★iDELIRIUM, REMIX YOURSELF!★

Many instruments existed on earth since long time, the guitar, the piano, the drums and many others, and then iDELIRIUM arrived…

iDELIRIUM is a system of sound communication whose discovery has been made by two archeologists at the end of ’30s.

In 1938 two archeologist brothers discovered in Cerreto Guidi (Tuscany, Italy) four caves disposed in a triangular shape that were connected by a larger rectangular space. In the center of this area, there were laying giants monoliths made of an unknown metallic material. Some researchers made the hypothesis that this creation was made by Leonardo Da Vinci himself because of the vicinity with his hometown.

In 1979 the German archeologist Fredrick Schulz made further examinations of the site. He took a sample of this metal and sent it to a lab in Germany in order to get a precise date for the object. The results of C-14 tests were shocking, since they attributed the creation of the object to 5000 b.c. . The scientific community did not accept such a discovery and Dr. Schulz lost all his credibility to the point that he was forced to stop his research activity. In August 2011 the son of Dr Schulz, thanks to the generosity of an American millionaire believing in the existence of E.T. life, got new funds to continue his father’s research. In an evening of August while he was inspecting the caves he discovered an astonishing interaction between the feet pressure on the metal monoliths and his own voice propagation in the caves. By positioning his feet in well-determined positions he could control in an accurate way the echo of his voice on the rocks. The scientific community finally recognized the existence in this place of a communication sound system technically really advanced whose functioning and origin are still completely unknown.

iDELIRIUM is an app that reproduces in the most accurate possible way this incredible discovery. iDELIRIUM is a delirating alien instrument that allows to register and playback your own voice together with electronic sound effects and allucinating combinations of visual effects. The interface, that at first glance looks cryptic, it is in reality extremely easy-to-use.
