Borderlands Granular is a new musical instrument for the iPad.
NOTE: Borderlands Granular is designed for iPad 2 and 3. It will run on the iPad 1, but with potentially slower performance due to the heavy requirements of the audio processing.
Explore, touch, and transform sound with this new interface for granular synthesis, a technique that involves the superposition of small fragments of sound, or grains, to create complex, evolving timbres and textures.
Borderlands Granular emphasizes gestural interaction over knobs and sliders. Create, drag, and throw pulsing collections of grains over a landscape of audio files, or use the built-in accelerometer to sculpt sound with gravity. Record and share performances on the web.

Multiple outputs on iPad. Multi-channel and multi-route audio is now possible with iOS 6 and up. This means that apps like Djay by Algoriddim can do independent stereo output to both the headphone jack, as well as via an HDMI or USB audio out adapter for the dock or lightning connector. That means Djs can pre-cue their music in djay on their headphone, before sending them out live over the other connection to their audience.
Djay iPad App iOS 6 Multi Channel Audio Routing
Musicians can now play their backing tracks on one set of stereo channels and have a click track routed to the headphone out puts for monitoring. You will have to sync the backing tracks with the click track but that is actually quite simple if you use the auto sync feature in Djay.

iPad Loops is an iOS music production blog dedicated to exposing the best iPad apps musicians, producers, and Djs. This is not a database of every app. It is, however, one of useful recommendations from someone with many years in music production. I try to update it on a daily basis (ok sometimes every two days) and I do my best to post useful apps only. My name is Jason Donnelly (Dj Puzzle).
Some of the apps that contain my sounds are Synth One, EG Segments, Hammerhead, Retronyms AudioCopy, Audio Evolution Mobile, and iMPC Pro. My work is published by Roland, Antares, Magix, Soundtrack Loops, Sample Logic, Acoustica, Native Instruments, The Grammt Museum and many more.
