The iPad Loops music app blog is proud to share news about apps from Oliver Greschke in collaboration with Mouse On Mars
If you are a fan of classic electronic music from the 1990s and on you might well be familiar with Mouse On Mars. Oliver Greschke and Mouse On Mars have a lovely iOS app company and one his hottest apps to date is Elastic Drums. Elastic Drums is most definitely a one of a kind in its class. Elastic Drums, is a music app with 6 channels of synthesized drum sounds, a step sequencer and 4 fx channels, all tweakable in an elastic way. The sound range is from classical analog beatbox sounds to the weirdest effect drone soundscapes.
What’s New in Version 1.6
– Added Audiobus Remote Triggers and a Jam view to jam with you current preset
– Added 2 new synth-engines: bass and drones
– Lots of great new presets from various users
– Polyrhythms possible with new in between time settings in each sequencer
– Improved Song editing: Move pattern by long tap and dropping somewhere else
– Improved Midi synchronization, especially outgoing sync
– Added Midi input channel
– Simplified synced audio recording
– Preset import works again
Features:
– 6 synth channels with 12 different percussion synth engines (kick, snare, hihat, clap, tom, wobble, fm, fm4, square, grain, synth, drone)
– 12 parameters for each synth engine
– automation for each parameter via knob recording or velocity
– 4 send effect channels with 2×11 mono effects and 2 x 9 stereo effects
– automation for all of the 8 possible effect parameters via xy pad
– master effects (stutter, delay, compressor …)
– 16 step sequencer for the 6 channels, each with it’s own tempo multiplier & length
– record audio and export to Soundcloud or Audioshare
– email audio recordings and presets
– iOS 8 supported
– Audiobus supported
– Inter-App audio (IAA) supported with transport control
– Midi start/stop/sync
Because all sounds get generated in realtime, the app is cpu heavy! iPhones 5 and greater can handle it with no problem, on iPhone 4s effects 3 and 4 get switched off by the engine automatically to save some cpu power. iPhone 4 and iPad1 are NOT recommended!
Elastic Drums is published by MoMinstruments, the instruments app label of Mouse on Mars and friends.
Plans for upcoming versions:
– Midi controller support
– Midi notes recording
– native screen size for iPhone 6, 6+
– new sequencer features (rolls, etc.)
– new synth engines (other percussions, sampler, etc)
Want to load your own samples into Patterning? Here is how to import samples into Patterning. I’m also giving away a free set of analog drum samples that were designed on a Moog Voyager.
Tap the sample window (has a waveform in it) and select “import”. See video tutorial below. You will see all the locations from which importing is allowed. The easiest method would be to use AudioShare. AudioShare is THE only file organization app and a must have. You can do a lot with AudioShare just check it out https://ipadloops.com/audioshare-audio-document-organizer-for-ios/
Patterning is an inspiring new drum machin from Olympia Noise Co. As beautiful as it is powerful, Patterning is a deep and flexible sample-based drum machine unlike any you’ve encountered before. With its elegant circular interface, Patterning transforms the iPad into a serious tool for beat-making.
Create dynamic drum patterns with the swipe of a finger. Make evolving, poly-metric rhythms, four-on-the-floor dance party jams, or laid back R&B grooves. Use Patterning’s independent loop settings to explore untapped rhythmic possibilities. Automate parameters to create intricate & complex beats. Arrange patterns on the timeline to construct songs. Use the built-in effects–delay, reverb, distortion, and 3- band EQ–to add atmosphere, shimmer and noise. Connect to other apps with Audiobus, Inter-App Audio, and MIDI.
Patterning comes loaded with classic drum machine samples as well as exclusive drum kits created and curated by contemporary producers and musicians. For the independent producer, it’s easy to import samples for custom kits.
With an extensive and uncommon feature set, Patterning redefines what an iOS drum machine can be.
The following video guide shows you how to live loop with an iPad, a foot pedal, LoopTree, and Midibridge. The foot pedal in this video is a Behringer FCB1010 and the audio interface Focusrite Scarlett 18i8. The Focusrite audio interface is there to send sound from the iPad to the sound system NOT to record audio into LoopTree the looping app. The sound sound source in this video is internal within the iPad itself and can be routed to LoopTree via Audiobus.
MidiBridge is used to connect a MIDI foot pedal (Behringer FCB1010) with LoopTree to give you remote control of REC, Toggle and Clear.
A MIDI keyboard is used to control SampleTank (the internal sound source of choice. You can choose whichever app you prefer) , a foot pedal to control LoopTree and we’ll glue it all together with Audiobus and MidiBridge.
Let’s have a look at the video!
LoopTree is an exciting new breed of looper that brings more fun than ever to creating live music! Record and group practically unlimited vocal and instrumental loops using a powerful, layered interface that gives you unrivaled control over the music you create. Get your creative juices flowing and evolve your loops using the built-in filter and multi-touch beat repeat.
LoopTree solves the problem of destructive merging by instead combining your loops into layers. You retain individual control over your original loops and you can also control them as one using the new layer.
iPad Loops is an iOS music production blog dedicated to exposing the best iPad apps musicians, producers, and Djs. This is not a database of every app. It is, however, one of useful recommendations from someone with many years in music production. I try to update it on a daily basis (ok sometimes every two days) and I do my best to post useful apps only. My name is Jason Donnelly (Dj Puzzle).
Some of the apps that contain my sounds are Synth One, EG Segments, Hammerhead, Retronyms AudioCopy, Audio Evolution Mobile, and iMPC Pro. My work is published by Roland, Antares, Magix, Soundtrack Loops, Sample Logic, Acoustica, Native Instruments, The Grammt Museum and many more.
