UPDATE KRFT Modular Groovebox
Author View comments Tags Tags: , , , , , ,

KRFT is a modular instrument for expressive music production that we built to challenge the two decade old paradigm of the multi-track DAW. Designed from the ground up with a focus on live experimentation and expressive interactions, KRFT will inspire you to make music that would normally be out of reach. Rather than being confined to a fixed interface KRFT lets you create a surface that suits your musical needs whether you’re building an experimental groove box or composing an entire track. Use it standalone with its powerful internal audio engine or with your studio & MIDI enabled gear, such as Ableton Live or Logic Pro X.

What’s New in Version 1.6.0
** Transform Cells **
– An amazing new way to explore musical ideas, the Transform Cell takes a Timeline and transforms its notes in real time.
– The transforms available are Note Repeat, Arpeggiate, Rhythmize, Harmonize, Beat Repeat, Quantize, Reverse, Invert, Rotate, Random Key & Random Time
– Apply the same transform to multiple timelines and combine multiple transform cells for wild results!

** Sync: Step **
– Setting a timelines sync to “step” will make a timeline start from the next note in its sequence.
– Use this with the hold interaction to step through a melody or drum beat with every tap.

** Cell => Explode **
– The new explode function allows you to split an existing timeline into multiple cells.
– You can split a timeline either using a slice length or per key.
– Use this function to split out a drum kit into its individual parts or to easily create a keyboard.

** Matrix 2.0 **
– Now you can multi-select notes. Just long hold on the matrix and then drag over notes to select them.
– Selections can be moved, deleted, resized, copied & pasted – even into other loops.
– You can also apply transforms to these selections, such as invert, reverse, humanize and more!
– Added an undo button!

** Save user presets **
– Now you can save your user presets and use them across your projects.

** Minor Improvements **
– Added 4 new scales => Major Blues, Minor Blues, Whole Tone, Klezmer
– Added INIT patch for bass and lead synths
– Added noise param on synth engine
– Improved menu speeds
– UI Improvements
– Bug Fixes 🙂

Phaserings iPad Ensemble
Author View comments Tags Tags: , , ,

A studio performance of an RNN-controlled Touch Screen Ensemble from 2017-07-03 at the University of Oslo.

In this performance, a touch-screen musician improvises with a computer-controlled ensemble of three artificial performers. A recurrent neural network tracks the touch gestures of the human performer and predicts musically appropriate gestural responses for the three artificial musicians. The performances on the three ‘AI’ iPads are then constructed from matching snippets of previous human recordings. A plot of the whole ensemble’s touch gestures are shown on the projected screen.

This performance uses Metatone Classifier (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.51712) to track touch gestures and Gesture-RNN (https://github.com/cpmpercussion/gest…) to predict gestural states for the ensemble. The touch-screen app used in this performance was PhaseRings (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.50860).

This work is supported by The Research Council of Norway as a part of the Engineering Predictability with Embodied Cognition (EPEC) project, under grant agreement 240862. Citable at: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.831910

PhaseRings is a musical instrument for performing expressive music with touch gestures. Anyone can create a beautiful piece of music with our sound schemes and generative composition engine!

Each ring on the screen represents a different pitch, and you can tap and swirl on each ring to create combinations of long and short notes. The angle and size of your tap will change the timbre of the notes you create!

PhaseRings includes seven expressive “sound schemes” featuring percussive sounds like marimba and singing bowls as well as pure synth sounds like phase and string synthesis.

Three “compositions” of pitches are included in the app, but you can also create your own custom composition by choosing three base notes and scales, PhaseRings will do the rest, generating a series of great setups from the harmony you choose!

Features:
– 7 sound schemes
– 4 built-in setups
– Custom generative composition
– 11 scales and modes
– Core MIDI support for iOS MIDI Accessories and MIDI enabled apps
– AudioBus Support with state saving
– Inter-App Audio Support

Author View comments Tags Tags: , , , ,

Use Dream Foot and a Expression Pedal and Blue Board controller to control live expression with your synth sounds. The following video tutorial will show you how. Also used in this video Sunrizer Synth for iPad

Dream Foot lets you play chords with a tap, a MIDI keyboard, or a MIDI foot controller. Choose one of our built-in sounds, or send MIDI Out to your favorite synth app. Great for songwriting, teaching, band practice, and live performance.

Guitar Players
• Play guitar while triggering chords with your foot.

Singers
• Need an accompanist to play the keys? Dream Foot is perfect.
• Tap the screen to play a chord, or go hands-free with a MIDI foot controller.

Keyboard Players
• Play a chord by pressing a single key on your MIDI keyboard.
• Or play the keyboard while triggering chords with your foot.

Dream Foot Highlights
• Professional Quality Sounds
• Smart Sustain
• MIDI Map
• MIDI In and MIDI Out

Dream Foot is divided into two modes: Jam mode and Song mode.

Jam mode
• 8 chord buttons
• Multi-touch interface so you can play multiple chords simultaneously.
• Smart Sustain will let a chord ring out, and will automatically stop when another chord is tapped.

Song mode
• Tap the Play button to play the next chord.
• Smart Sustain will let a chord ring out, and will automatically stop when the Play button is tapped again.
• Tap a chord button to queue the chord so it will play next.
• Tap and hold a chord button to edit, copy, paste, delete, or insert a new chord.
• Up to 8 chord progressions per song.
• Unlimited songs, sorted alphabetically.
• Amazing Grace is included as an example song.
• 16 songs can be stored in the Setlist for use in live performance.

Chords can be created using two different methods: Factory Chord and Custom Chord.

Factory Chord
• Not a keyboard player? No problem. Just tell Dream Foot you need a Gsus4 and it will give you the right notes. How about a D9/F#? We got you covered.

Custom Chord
• Creating a custom chord voicing has never been easier. Simply tap the keys you want, or plug in a MIDI keyboard to select the notes you want by pressing keys on the MIDI keyboard.

MIDI Map
• Dream Foot can easily learn how you’d like for it to respond to actions on your MIDI controller. Simply enter MIDI Map mode, tap the button you want to map in Dream Foot, then perform the action on your MIDI controller. The action might be pressing a key on a MIDI keyboard, or tapping a foot switch on a MIDI foot controller.

Settings
• Velocity – affects the intensity of built-in sounds as well as MIDI Out sounds.
• Volume – affects the volume of built-in sounds.
• Transpose – allows you to transpose all notes while chord names remain unaltered.
• MIDI In – allows incoming MIDI connections (ex. keyboard, foot controller)
• MIDI Out – allows outgoing MIDI connections so that you can play chords in Dream Foot while using the sounds of another app.
