Beat Time by Tiv Studio allows you to change the pitch and time of audio AND video. A great tool for any musician. Slow down video recordings of your favorite guitarist and slow it down without altering the pitch. Check out this demo video of Jordan Rudess showing off both his insane skills and Beat Time.
Beat Time plays audio & video and can change the tempo (time stretch) and/or pitch and does note & chord detection. It is aimed as a practice / study tool for musicians and as a helper tool for transcribing audio & video.

ROOM FOR FOUR
With the iO Mix’s four-channel capability you finally have everything you need for mixing and recording on your iPad, all in one device. There’s no more clunky dongle connections or USB cables needed. Your iPad is seamlessly integrated into a compact mixing console that will be immediately familiar and easy to use. When you close iO Mix’s hinged door, your iPad is completely enclosed and secure — you’ll hardly be able to tell that they’re separate devices.
CONNECT & CREATE
iO Mix allows you to connect virtually any piece of recording gear to your iPad: microphones, instruments, speakers, headphones and more. Four combo XLR-1/4″ input channels are exactly where you need them on the rear of the unit. Each has trim, channel gain, pan, and low & high EQ controls located right in front of you. Push-button High Pass Filters are also available on each channel to eliminate low-frequency interference in live mixing and recording situations.
STUDIO TO GO
With its compact design, iO Mix is the perfect portable studio. Bring it to your band’s practice space, coffeehouse gig or weekend recording session. Switchable 48V phantom power allows you to use studio condenser microphones and iO Mix’s guitar-direct switch makes guitar recording easy. You don’t even need an amp! Simply connect your guitar or bass, flip the switch and use your iPad to add effects like reverb and delay. Balanced, stereo 1/4″ outputs and 1/4″ headphone output are also onboard along with a switchable limiter for clip-free recordings.
WIRELESS WHENEVER
iO Mix is Core Audio-compliant, allowing you to use it with virtually any app in the App Store. Plus, your iPad’s WiFi, Bluetooth, AirPlay, and 3G connectivity, allow you to tailor your sound at a moment’s notice or playback audio through compatible wireless speakers. Download new effects or filters to deal with unexpected live sound needs, or download songs, videos or entirely new applications to keep your audience entertained during a gig or the band’s creative energy flowing during a recording session.
VIDEO VERSATILITY
Along with its four-channel mixing and recording capability, the iO Mix’ s ability to playback video makes it ideal for applications that were previously impossible. You can use the iO Mix to not only mix and record, but also playback live performance visuals behind the band. The iO Mix is also great for corporate presentations and business meetings, allowing up to four speakers to be mic’d and have video playing back simultaneously. With the optional Alesis Module Mount, you can attach the iO Mix to a nearby mic stand and have easy access to instantly adjust any mixing, recording or video-playback parameter.

Spacelab Monophonic Synthesiver for iPad V 1.1 by Iglesia Intermedia – Waaaaay cool synth by the makers of MiniMash. Glad to see something from them. The UI design is very intuitive. There is no other synth like this. What really makes it stand out are the various layouts for playing it. It has four ways to play: keyboard, graph, guitar, and wind controller. Underneath those interfaces is a fully programmable subtractive synth with oscillators, filters, envelopes, effects, FM, presets, an arpeggiator, full MIDI control, and much more.
Spacelab Synthesizer Screenshot 1
What’s New in Version 1.0.3
-Fix crash on saving presets
-Manually rotate orientation
-Creates virtual MIDI port for intra-app communication
-Optional run audio while in background (for use with iOS sequencers)
Spacelab Synthesizer Screenshot 2
You get two oscillators and both can sync to BPM! Also get an arpeggiator, tap tempo, Bit Crusher, FM, gestures such as tilt, and X/Y pad.
Seems like there are still a few glitches with this app. I noticed some clicking/interrupted tones. The X/Y pad could be a bit smoother. I didn’t like swiping to select the different layouts. I would prefer that to be a simple button.
This is a universal app so it’s also works great on an iPhone.
Things I would like to see in future updates: a poly version, a step sequencer, strum mode for guitar, different tunings for guitar, normal pitch bend wheel or slider, modulation wheel or slider.
Retronymns is working together with Akai to bring an authentic MPC2000 app to their app Tabletop. It will run within the app along with many other useful virtual instruments.
Here is what they said, “The MPC on iPad is going to be a blast with classic MPC beat making features, sweet effects, and a killer sampling workflow, and now you’ll be able to work this legendary device into your Tabletop sessions! Possibly the best part is how it works: owners of the stand alone MPC app will automatically unlock the MPC device in Tabletop for free — no need to purchase it twice!”
Additionally they have partnered up with iZotope to bring a suite of real-time vocal processing tools to future versions of the Tabletop app.
“By partnering with iZotope, we’ll be able to offer Tabletop users the distinctive pitch-shifting vocal effects heard in so many popular songs. Use them to polish & perfect your tracks, or push the envelope and pitch-shift your live vocals to somewhere entirely new. No matter how you choose to use the iZotope tools, you’ll benefit from the same ease of use and modular design that makes all Tabletop devices work so well together.”
These features are coming soon. My guess is they will be in app purchase as additional kit but I hope they are including in the initial price.
iPad Loops is an iOS music production blog dedicated to exposing the best iPad apps musicians, producers, and Djs. This is not a database of every app. It is, however, one of useful recommendations from someone with many years in music production. I try to update it on a daily basis (ok sometimes every two days) and I do my best to post useful apps only. My name is Jason Donnelly (Dj Puzzle).
Some of the apps that contain my sounds are Synth One, EG Segments, Hammerhead, Retronyms AudioCopy, Audio Evolution Mobile, and iMPC Pro. My work is published by Roland, Antares, Magix, Soundtrack Loops, Sample Logic, Acoustica, Native Instruments, The Grammt Museum and many more.
