iRing – Control iPhone and iPad With Hand Gestures
Author View comments Tags Tags: , , , ,

iRing

Now control your music apps and effects without touching your device with the iRing™ touchless controller for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The new iRing uses hand gestures to control parameters of effects and other items in your music apps, allowing you to create stunning and dramatic music in an incredibly fun way by simply moving your hands in front of your device.

iRing uses patented advanced image-recognition, motion control and precise geometric positioning technology to give you control of assignable parameters within your apps. It uses the front-facing camera on your device to determine the exact position of the wearable rings, and recognizes and tracks the movement of the linear or triangular patterned iRing “rings” allowing you to control up to six parameters at a time.

Making music and creating killer real time effects for nonstop dance music and grooves is now easy and as simple as moving your hands… something you probably already do. So get the groove going and take control with your hands and iRing.

iRing2

With iRing, you actually get a 3 dimensional grid — an XY and Z grid — that allows you to move across the screen to control delay time and feedback (the X & Y grid), but also gives you a third parameter to control by moving the iRing closer to or farther from the device. This “Z” movement allows you to control the amount of delay applied to the signal, so you can control up to 3 parameters at a time with just one iRing. And iRing comes with 2 rings, one for each hand, so you can control up to six parameters (3 per effect) with your hands.

For music app developers, there is an SDK and a FREE licensing program available upon request for developers who want to take advantage of this breakthrough technology to integrate motion control into their apps. http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/iring/

iRing™ technology can easily be utilized beyond music apps, so we encourage game, health & fitness, utility and other app developers to contact us to take advantage of the technology and improve the functionality and control of apps with iRing™.

The JamStik is instantly compatible with Garage Band and hundreds of other Midi-based apps, but when used with our apps the technology goes deeper.

The JamStik grew out of our previous products that allowed any level of player to easily manipulate and control a variety of musical sounds. We combined this with our patented finger-sensing technology and made something that lets anyone immediately create great-sounding and original music, but that also provides a new interactive gateway to learn guitar. A key advantage of our technology allows the player to see their fingers on the screen in real-time to learn, create and play like never before.

BlueBoard Blue Tooth Pedal Board

NAMM: iRig BlueBoard Announced
The first Bluetooth MIDI pedalboard for iPhone, iPad and Mac
23 January 2013

Winner of the iLounge “Best in Show” at the recent CES, iRig® BlueBoard, a groundbreaking new Bluetooth MIDI pedalboard for iPhone, iPad and Mac, which gives you: the guitarists, bassists and keyboard players hands-free control of mobile and Mac music apps.

iRig BlueBoard is a great addition to any mobile or studio rig for live performance and recording. You can use it to extend control of your preferred music apps by switching presets, changing sounds or modifying effects parameters – all hands-free. You don’t have to put down your instrument, and can remain focused on your performance.

Any music app or software that is MIDI compatible (the standard communication protocol for musical instruments) – such as IK’s AmpliTube, VocaLive, SampleTank, iGrand – or any other Core-MIDI-compatible app like Apple GarageBand, can be operated wirelessly with iRig BlueBoard.

This ultra-portable unit uses Bluetooth 4.0 technology to transmit the actions of its four onboard, backlit footswitches and its two optional external pedals to the mobile device or Mac. Then using the included iRig BlueBoard app and software, the Bluetooth signals are converted into MIDI messages and routed internally to the music app that’s running on the device.

Because it’s wireless, iRig BlueBoard lets you setup onstage without being tethered to your mobile device. The unit’s range is 10 meters (over 32 feet), giving musicians a great deal of mobility to roam the stage that would be impossible with a wired unit. Because the footswitches are backlit, they’re easy to see in all lighting conditions, even on a dark stage. Additionally, the fact that iRig uses wireless Bluetooth leaves all the wired ports of the device free, so they can be used simultaneously by interfaces or controllers that feature the 30-pin or Lightning connector, like IK’s iRig HD, iRig MIDI or iRig Keyboard, and adapters or microphones that use the device mini-jack such as iRig or iRig MIC.

Features:

Bluetooth MIDI pedalboard (10m/32.8′ range)
4 backlit switches for sending program, bank and other MIDI messages
2 1/4″ inputs for optional expression pedals or switches that can used for sending continuous controller or on/off messages
BlueBoard iOS app runs in background on mobile device or Mac, and translates Bluetooth messages to MIDI
Runs on standard AAA batteries
Small enough to fit in a laptop bag

Pricing and Availability

iRig BlueBoard is priced at $99.99 / €79.99 MSRP (excl. tax) IK Multimedia iRig Blueboard wireless floor controller

AK-7 Core Midi Controller App

AK-7 Core is an inexpensive wireless MIDI keyboard controller for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. It features a full-size realistic 3d piano keyboard which you can zoom and slide around to find the range of notes you want to play.

AK-7 Core App Screenshot

It works great with Apple’s Garageband, MainStage and Logic as well as any other DAW which supports MIDI input.

It also includes a switchable piano sound set for practicing anywhere without a MIDI connection.

There are options to change the view between 3d and 2d views, as well as standard MIDI options such as transpose, MIDI channel select etc.

Velocity is adjustable and is based on the position you hit each key. There are pitch bend and modulation sliders on the main screen too. (these only affect the MIDI output, not the onboard sound)

The wireless MIDI works using CoreMIDI so so additional drivers are needed on a Mac. Windows users will need to use a driver such as “rtpMIDI”.

On an iPad, it’s possible to use the Camera Connection Kit and a USB to MIDI cable to make a direct wired MIDI connection to your music workstation if there’s no wifi available.

Supported devices:
iPad 1 and iPad2
iPhone 3GS or newer
iPod Touch 3rd generation or newer

AK-7 Core is available for $1.99
