Waldorf Synth For iPad

Waldorf Synth For iPad

I am very excited to hear about this new Waldorf synth coming for the iPad. I’ve been a fan of Waldorf ever since the original Q series. Will be nice to have their wicked wavetables on an iPad.

Thanks to intelligent gesture recognition and plenty of available graphic performance the iPad is perfect for bringing wavetable synthesis to a new level. For the first time it will be possible to plunge into the depths of wavetables and to make their sound content visible with advanced 3-D technology.

The cooperation between Waldorf and TempoRubato, also known for their product line NLog Synth, doesn’t stop here: The application will also offer new possibilities for sound manipulation based on Waldorfs very latest spectral research.

Completely new and unheard sounds

An innovative approach to wavetable synthesis allows for the transposition of the spectrum and the balance of periodic and sound spectra entirely independent from a wave’s position. The existing wavetable technology is thereby extended by two new dimensions, and it allows for formant shifts as well as numerous other unheard sounds. Also, unlike with typical wavetable instruments, the number and length of waves in a wavetable will no longer be restricted. Itís the era of wavetable synthesis V2.0!

This app will support a huge number of hardware MIDI interfaces, e. g. all Core MIDI compatible interfaces by IK Multimedia, iConnectMIDI, MIDI Mobilizer II by Line6, ioDock or the Camera Connection Kit by Apple, as well as proprietary interfaces such as the SynthStation by Akai.

App collaboration standards like Sonomas Audio Copy/Paste, Intuas Audio Pasteboard and Virtual Core MIDI will also be supported like the upcoming AudioBus standard and KORGs WIST synchronization technology.

Joachim Flor, executive manager at Waldorf Music GmbH is pleased: “We are truly excited about our collaboration with Rolf Wöhrmann from TempoRubato. Considering his great experience with the iPad synthesis we are planning to release this excellent synthesiser this summer. Then it will be available at the Apple App Store. It’s going to be an exciting time!”

Rolf Wöhrmann is also looking forward to the challenge: “The cooperation with Waldorf Music and the Waldorf developers is a great honour. Waldorfs long history in wave table synthesis and the new and innovative possibilities of the iPad will create an astonishing synthesizer for musicians, sound designers and producers.”

Spacelab Synthesizer For iPad

Spacelab Monophonic Synthesiver for iPad V 1.1 by Iglesia Intermedia – Waaaaay cool synth by the makers of MiniMash. Glad to see something from them. The UI design is very intuitive. There is no other synth like this. What really makes it stand out are the various layouts for playing it. It has four ways to play: keyboard, graph, guitar, and wind controller. Underneath those interfaces is a fully programmable subtractive synth with oscillators, filters, envelopes, effects, FM, presets, an arpeggiator, full MIDI control, and much more.

Spacelab Synthesizer Screenshot 1

What’s New in Version 1.0.3

-Fix crash on saving presets
-Manually rotate orientation
-Creates virtual MIDI port for intra-app communication
-Optional run audio while in background (for use with iOS sequencers)

Spacelab Synthesizer Screenshot 2

Spacelab Synthesizer Screenshot 2

You get two oscillators and both can sync to BPM! Also get an arpeggiator, tap tempo, Bit Crusher, FM, gestures such as tilt, and X/Y pad.

Seems like there are still a few glitches with this app. I noticed some clicking/interrupted tones. The X/Y pad could be a bit smoother. I didn’t like swiping to select the different layouts. I would prefer that to be a simple button.

This is a universal app so it’s also works great on an iPhone.

Things I would like to see in future updates: a poly version, a step sequencer, strum mode for guitar, different tunings for guitar, normal pitch bend wheel or slider, modulation wheel or slider.

Spacelab is available for $0.99

Jasuto Pro Synth For iPad

Jasuto Pro allows you to visually construct your own synths/effects, and use them to make sequences all on your device! With the addition of a fully-featured sampler you can now record/resample/edit, and even create entirely new samples by drawing right in the app.

Jasuto Pro uses the relative position of nodes and their connections to control the sound. So the scene not only represents the synthesis structure, but also a custom multi-touch control surface. Motion can be recorded per node giving you rich, flexible automation.

Connections can be created automatically by simply dragging nodes around, or manually. Each wire can be double-tapped to allow even more control of each connection.

Jasuto Pro comes installed with more than 45 modules. Each of the modules have been hand-optimized for your devices CPU, allowing you to create extremely complex scenes.

Jasuto Pro has a built-in FTP server, so you can efficiently transfer files to/from your device using your OS or FTP client. Also the new scene browser has the ability to download/upload/rate user created content from the ever growing community!

Also available for iphone and ipod touch.

-anti-aliased oscillators with hard-sync, FM, PWM, PM.
-analog style filters (lp, hp, bp, ladder emulation).
-signal control (compressor, limiter, gate, follower).
-zoomable sampler editor with several loop modes (normal, 1 shot, ping, granular).
-ADSR envelope editor.
-multipage/octave sequencer.
-tape style analog delay.
-reverb, phaser, several waveshapers.
-resample/record the current playback.
-audio clipboard, compatible with both Intua and Sonoma.
-scene sharing with the interwebs.
-incoming OSC over wifi modules for notes and CC’s.

Jasuto Pro is available for $4.99

Grain Science iPad Synthesizer

Grain Science is a beautiful new iPad Synthesiser. Designed for musicians, soundscape artists and SFX engineers who want to go beyond our Sylo Synthesiser, Grain Science is built on similar principles of granular synthesis, but is vastly more powerful.

What’s New in Version 1.3.5

• Updated for iOS 6
• Updated to take advantage of larger iPhone 5/iPod touch (5th generation) screen

• Fix: Various other minor issues

Grain Science iPad Synth

Use the built-in waveforms, or record or import your own — then use the sophisticated grain engine to create something completely new from them! Grain Science is easy to get to grips with, but offers lots of depth to explore: instead of offering one or two LFOs, almost any parameter in the system can be programmed to vary over time in complex ways.

Using new optimisations available in iOS 5, we can provide two grain units per voice, which you can combine for morphing or complex modulated sounds, then send through a configurable FX chain. Pick any 4 from the collection of FX units (including various types of distortion, high- and low-pass filters, phaser, resonance and echo), and connect them up in any order. Other audio tweaks include soft loop, reverb, glide and supercharger controls, and the ability to affect granular synthesis in realtime (live grainbending).

Also featured are an arpeggiator with both chord and step-sequence modes; Core MIDI support, including “tap & twist” learning for setting up controls; and a customisable performance screen with a collection of XY Pads and wheels.

Rounding it off, Grain Science plays nicely with others: Dropbox, Twitter and email integration are all included, for sharing or exporting your waveforms, recordings of your performances, and instrument (patch) designs.

Grain Science is available for $9.99
