MidiFire Modular MIDI Router
Author View comments Tags Tags: , , , , ,

MidiFire is a free-form, modular CoreMIDI router, processor, monitor and clock source from the makers of MidiBridge.

Drop and arrange MIDI ports and modules onto the canvas however you like and connect them up to start routing and processing your MIDI events. Pan, zoom and scroll the canvas. Add as many ports and modules as you wish. Connect them in series or parallel. Cascade them together. Merge and split. You can create highly complex MIDI processing setups. Or keep it simple – the choice is yours.

▶ FEATURES

Essential processing modules for channelising, filtering, transposing, ‘monofying’, remapping and monitoring – or create your own. All included with the standard app.

A highly accurate remotely controllable MIDI clock source.

Save your work into recallable/re-usable scenes. Share your scenes with other devices, computers and people. Switch between your scenes via configurable MIDI program change messages.

Download even more functionality within the app for free using the ‘Scenes Club’ for useful and special-purpose scenes that you can incorporate into your workflow.

Initiate and connect Bluetooth MIDI sessions within the application.

Define multiple virtual CoreMIDI ports to segregate your MIDI streams.

▶ COMPATIBILITY

MidiFire supports all CoreMIDI hardware interfaces, the network interface, virtual ports (self owned or other apps’) and Bluetooth MIDI.

Also available for mac on the Mac App Store. Scene files are interchangeable between iOS and macOS.

▶ STREAM BYTER (II)

What sets MidiFire apart is the newly extended Stream Byter module first pioneered in MidiBridge. With this you can write your own processing modules using textual rules.

Newly added constructs to the Stream Byter include: IF/THEN, local/global variables, mathematical functions, timing variables, ‘onload’ rules, setting of block labels and sending arbitrary MIDI data. The Stream Byter is backwards compatible with rulesets you already have from MidiBridge; just copy/paste them in.

▶ NICHE MODULES

Also included are some specialised modules:

• Tracking Clamp – reduce tracking miss-hits from MIDI guitars.

• Robotic Knob – generate complementary CC messages to control synths and FX based on your playing.

• OSC Exchange – send and receive OSC data across a MIDI channel (DIN, USB, wifi or Bluetooth) between MidiFire instances.

Soundbow Is Like Sound Thingie On Steroids

Soundbow iOS

Anyone remember the Sound Thingie app? You would draw in lines and drop little balls to make sounds. Well there is a new app called SoundBow and it’s basically like Sound Thingie on steroids lol.

SoundBow for iPhone and iPad is a drawing based music instrument with a clean and simple visual interface. Create music by drawing curves over the screen. Your gesture will be remembered and played back continuously. Each time your ever-looping gesture hits a string, a sound is produced. Apart from drawing, you can experiment by moving the strings around freely to rescale your instrument. Record any sound through the microphone and start creating melodies, soundscapes with your own voice. If you wish, you can also export your composition as an audio file.

Soundbow

SoundBow is made with free and open source tools. The interface is built with OpenFrameworks, for accurate polyphonic sound sample playback, the sound engine is made with SodaLib, a free Data Sonification Library built on top of libPd (Pure Data).

Bent FM Circuit Bending Synth For iOS
Author View comments Tags Tags: , , , , , ,

Bent FM

The iPadloops music app blog is proud to announce news by Mayank Sanganeria.

bent.fm is a full FM model of a circuit-bent synthesizer. bent.fm allows the user to tweak classic circuit bending modifications like fine and octave-decimated clock bends, and experiment with more esoteric bends. Circuit-bent distortions and algorithmic sequences can be created by (im)proper connections on the bend matrix. Reroute digital serial information through the base chip set (a numerically controlled oscillator) and extra logic gates (NAND and XOR, binary counters), and experience architecture-level bit crushing. For anyone interested in circuit bending, glitch sounds, industrial music, and post-procedural art.

Bent-FM

What’s New in Version 1.5
• bent.fm is now a Universal App
– iPhone version lets you control 1 oscillator
– iPad version lets you control 2 oscillators
• Updated to Audiobus 2.2.1
• MIDI keyboards supported for pitch input!

Doctor Om Simulator For iOS

Doctor Om For iOS

Awe yeah , I remember first hearing about this rare synth back when I was small! The original synth dates back to the 70s was nicknamed Doctor Om for the meditation-friendly tones it generates. Others believe the name is an acronym for Drone Ready Oscillator Module or Dual Recirculating Oscillator Module, but no one knows for certain where the name comes from originally.

DIY synth enthusiasts discovered the device was easily hackable, and closely-guarded photocopies of modding schematics have been handed around the community for years. The directions show how to rewire the generator into a nice little synth with two mixable Low Frequency Oscillators and a Voltage-Controlled Filter.

The app version is a complete and playable simulation of three different versions of DR-OM boxes that were discovered at a yard sale near Quonset Point along with a folder of photocopied schematics. Each DR-OM unit has its own characteristic sound because of degrading components or bad wiring by the owner. The Speed dial is the most finicky part of the assembly; depending on the box, the dial can cause tuning drifts, random events and gnarly effects.

Note: You’ll probably want to use more than 2 fingers with DR-OM, so try turning off Multitasking Gestures in the General Settings on your iPad. This is a universal app for iPhone 4+ and the iPad. It is produced by the Fluxama Group, the creators of another iPadLoops favorite

Dr-Om is available for $1.99

  • iPad Loops is an iOS music production blog dedicated to exposing the best iPad apps musicians, producers, and Djs. This is not a database of every app. It is, however, one of useful recommendations from someone with many years in music production. I try to update it on a daily basis (ok sometimes every two days) and I do my best to post useful apps only. My name is Jason Donnelly (Dj Puzzle). You might know me from my royalty free loop packs and sound design. Some of the apps that contain my sounds are Synth One, EG Segments, Hammerhead, Retronyms AudioCopy, Audio Evolution Mobile, LP-5, iPRO.DJSAMPLER, Looptastic. My work is published by Roland, Antares, Magix, Soundtrack Loops, Sample Logic, Acoustica, Loopmasters and many more. Subscribe to our RSS feed below to get updated when new apps are posted.
