Grid Music Adds Velocity Cells
Author View comments Tags Tags: , , , , ,

Grid Music is a handy little step sequencer with probability. I did a demo / review of the app and realized that I really like this one. This update is very nice.

What’s new in Grid Music v2.2.0:

• New: Velocity Cells

Velocity cells (stars) change the loudness and MIDI velocity of all notes when active. If a velocity cell is set to the lowest value, it is a rest (labelled “—”). If a rest is active, note cells will not make any sound and no MIDI note messages will be sent on that step.

Use velocity cells to add dynamics to your patterns, or create variations on a sequence of notes by adding a sequence of rests with a different interval. The new “16 Step Velocity” template can be used as a starting point for this technique.

• New: Octave Range

You can now adjust the range of note cells from 1 to 5 octaves.

• New: Added templates featuring velocity cells.
• Changed: The default MIDI velocity is now 80, or mezzo-forte (labelled “mf” on velocity cells).
• Changed: The full volume of the built-in synthesizer is louder.
• Changed: The Shift setting has a wider range, from -3 to +3 octaves.
• Changed: Pattern Length is now called Measure Length.
• Fixed: The Play button is now easier to tap.
• Fixed: Playback no longer stops when deleting the current pattern (if there is one before or after to replace it).
• Fixed: Document thumbnails would sometimes not be updated.

Grid Music is a miniature workshop for creative MIDI sequencing. It can be used to compose classic 16-step patterns, but can also create loops, random branches, and polyrhythm. Its 5×5 grid allows for countless arrangements of melody and timbre while keeping the entire composition visible and easy to understand. Pitch and rhythm can be directly manipulated by touch, and the structure of a pattern can be altered in just a few taps.

FAC Maxima Adds Waveform Viewer
Author View comments Tags Tags: , , , , , , ,

Fac Maxima is an extremely useful audio utility effect. I use it in almost all of my projects. FAC Maxima is an audio effect designed to provide automatic gain control of your audio materials to ensure that the levels stay consistent and never exceed 0dB. It’s a clever combination of dynamic processors that can be set to provide a gentle transparent signal boost respecting the initial dynamic or significant colorised level maximisation. Thanks to a unique signal path, algorithms and a small set of parameters, FAC Maxima makes a complicated task easy.

What’s New:
• New waveform viewer: optional scales, mirroring, threshold line feedback, VU Meter Peak/Rms and general widget optimisation.
• Automatic setting of the startup view (small vs large). Can be changed if the host supports the view configuration management.

In addition to the classic final stage application, FAC Maxima excels on individual tracks too. With a few changes it’s easy to go from the common gain deviation compensation, e.g. for vocals, to drastical audio changes that will bring your audio material to new territories: boost reverb tails, flattenize drums… The applications are various and the possibilities are limitless.

• Get the final touch!
FAC Maxima definitely makes audio louder and that makes it an effective tool in many mastering engineers’ arsenals.

• Be creative!
Emphasis subtitle details, sometimes floor contains treasure, you will have a completely new listen to your old tracks! The audio background may indeed contain noise, but sometimes also “pearls” that may be revealed.

• Go further!
Tired by the advertisement boost, or important speech level variation in broadcasting? Use FAC Maxima to maintain the level constant. DJ’s may also benefit from the effects to normalise in real time the level of the mixed tracks.

As with all FAC products the interface has a unique sober look and provides a great user experience. FAC Maxima also brings a real-time multi-waveform graph having a 6s buffer of the audio material before and after operations, this will help on setting the right parameters and have a visual feedback.

Synthscaper Adds More Samples
Author View comments Tags Tags: , , , ,

Synthesizer specially designed for creating and experiments with ambient soundscapes in wide range from noises to melodic instruments and everything in between. You can construct melodic pads or atonal soundscapes from different kind of built-in or downloaded samples by using all power of multi-layered oscillators, chains of filters and effects, envelope generators and low frequency oscillators. Or just use predefined scenes and creating your own scenes from library of oscillators presets. Very flexible settings of each module give you a great opportunity for creating unique and colorful sounding from usual instruments or natural samples and adding automated changes and spatial effects for an endless variations. Different ways of assigning screen and MIDI keyboards to the oscillators provide very advanced features to control the sound. The on-screen keyboard is adapted to create special effects and varying the continuous textures and drones. The Designer tool using the neural network generates new presets based on already existing by adding some random variations and checking the result so that the new preset remains similar to the selected pattern.

What’s New:
1.4 Mar 13, 2018

This update adds Designer tool to iPhone version. This tool is intended to automatically generate and tweaking new presets and scenes. With using neural network the Designer generates new presets based on already existing by adding some random variations and checking the result so that the new preset remains similar to the selected pattern.

Also in this update:

● Added new scenes and presets.
● Added a lot of new samples in built-in library.
● The Designer tool available for iPhone version.
● Improved the option autotune for samples.
● Optimization for use on iPhone X.
● Audiobus SDK updated.
● Several minor bugs were fixed.

This is one of my all time favorite essential synth apps. It’s a synth/sampler like no other. Very deep and complex but simple enough to get fast results by just using a few tweaks. Runs on both iPad and iPhone.

Main features:

● Three independent oscillators.
● Three layers for each oscillator.
● Six voices for each layer.
● Six envelope generators.
● Six low frequency oscillators.
● Separate arpeggiator for each oscillator.
● Designer tool for generate scenes and presets.
● General processing of level, balance, LPF, HPF for each layer.
● Three slots for filters and effects after each oscillator.
● Twenty additional selectable filters and effects.
● Set of different kind of filters and effect modules.
● Spatial mixer with two different sound space.
● Screen keyboard adapted for continuous drones and soundscapes.
● Predefined set of keyboard scales and custom scales.
● Full screen, double and split features for screen keyboard.
● Options of screen keyboard for pitch, continuous, modify, velocity.
● Supports for two virtual and two MIDI keyboards at the same time.
● Flexible assigning keyboards and controls to the oscillators.
● Two main effects controls can combine several parameters.
● Uploading samples thru Dropbox, Web access, clipboard.
● Auto and manual tuning of samples with frequency analyzer.
● Set of predefined and ready-to-use scenes and presets.
● Built-in library of samples of instruments, synths, noises, etc.
● Possibility to pack and share scenes and samples as single file.
● Supports loop points and note info in wav files.
● Detailed application description (built-in and PDF file).
● Inter-App audio compatible (with transport and BPM controls).
● Supports Audiobus 3 with “State Saving” and MIDI features.
● Supports Ableton Link.

Requirements:

Recommended at least iPhone 6 / iPad Mini 4 / iPad Air 2 and higher.
