Griffin StudioConnect For iPad

Connect your guitar, bass and MIDI instruments to your iPad and GarageBand.

StudioConnect gives your iPad: audio in and out, MIDI in and out, and a stereo headphone jack with its own volume control so you can monitor what’s going in (or out).

Whether you’re a serious musician, a confirmed hobbyist, or a budding composer, you know about MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface). Unlike audio recording, MIDI lets you capture the digital instructions for a musical performance, and then play them back later on a MIDI instrument.

In one compact device for your iPad, StudioConnect combines both the audio and the MIDI hemispheres of the audio world.

Audio In and Out

Plug your guitar into StudioConnect’s mono 1/4″ instrument jack and play directly into GarageBand or other apps.

Plug a recorder or mixer into StudioConnect’s stereo 3.5 mm input jack and connect the whole band to your iPad.

Left- and right-channel RCA plugs give you line-level stereo audio-out.

For your headphones, there’s a separate front-panel 3.5 mm stereo jack with its own volume knob.

MIDI In and Out

For your MIDI controller or drum pad, StudioConnect’s rear panel gives you a standard 5-pin DIN MIDI-in port.

For MIDI Out, there’s another 5-pin DIN MIDI connector on StudioConnect’s rear panel. Connect it to your sequencer, patch bay, or other MIDI gear. This lets you launch your favorite MIDI controller app and use your iPad as a musical instrument.

StudioConnect lets you connect everything for music-making to your iPad, and connect your iPad to everything musical. And as if that weren’t enough, it even charges your iPad while you play.

AxePort Pro Guitar Interface For iPad

Guitar Interface For iPad

The AxePort Pro from CEntrance is a professional USB direct box for use with electric guitars and basses, and features true plug-and-play installation. The unit is very compact and enables instant computer recording to any audio software running under Windows XP/Vista or Mac OSX. NOTE – it’s a USB device, and it connects to the iPad using the USB Camera Connection Kit. But Apple’s little white dongle doesn’t provide enough power to run the AxePort Pro’s preamp, so you have to use a powered USB hub (or some other powered USB device, like the iConnect MIDI) in between the iPad connector and the AxePort Pro to provide power. You can also use a portable USB juice pack. If you use it with a regular laptop or desktop, no additional power source should be needed.

A rugged chassis allows the unit to be used in virtually any environment, while the AxePort Pro’s low-noise circuitry will preserve high-quality audio sources. The 1/8″ stereo mini headphone output can power most headphones, features a dedicated volume control, and delivers zero-latency monitoring via a direct circuit.

Setup is virtually non-existent, allowing the user to create a mobile recording situation anywhere a computer is available. Native Instruments’ Guitar Combos modeling software enhances the usefulness of the product, especially for the on-the-go musician that needs high quality recording with minimal headaches.

  • iPad Loops is an iOS music production blog dedicated to exposing the best iPad apps musicians, producers, and Djs. This is not a database of every app. It is, however, one of useful recommendations from someone with many years in music production. I try to update it on a daily basis (ok sometimes every two days) and I do my best to post useful apps only. My name is Jason Donnelly (Dj Puzzle). You might know me from my royalty free loop packs and sound design. Some of the apps that contain my sounds are Synth One, EG Segments, Hammerhead, Retronyms AudioCopy, Audio Evolution Mobile, LP-5, iPRO.DJSAMPLER, Looptastic. My work is published by Roland, Antares, Magix, Soundtrack Loops, Sample Logic, Acoustica, Loopmasters and many more. Subscribe to our RSS feed below to get updated when new apps are posted.
