How To Sample With an iPad
Author View comments Tags Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

Hello everyone! Dj Puzzle here as your guide and today I’d like to show you the basics of sampling with an iPad. This video is for those just starting out, those with very little knowledge of sampling on an iPad. I decided to use Beatmaker 3 because it’s one of the best sample sequencers for iOS in my opinion. We won’t dive deep into advanced sampling in this video perhaps I’ll publishing another one for that. I thought it would be fun to sample from a vinyl record for this one! This Polish jazz record from my collection was perfect because it has lots of isolated samples. I could have went on for a lot time grabbing sounds and playing with them but I wanted to keep the video under 25 mins. Perhaps there will be a part 2 in the near future. Let me know! I have a Patreon account and wanted to thank my patrons. I hope you find this video useful and thanks for the support!! 1900 subscribers so far whoo hoo!!

Beatmaker 3 Traditional DAW
Author View comments Tags Tags: , , , , , ,

I AM SO STOKED to share the latest BM3 guide I just produced. I think it’s going to blow the app wide open for those who still struggle with the app. Those who come from traditional DAW style work flow. The genre of choice Shoegazer/Space Rock/Post Rock whatever you want to call it was a LOT of fun writing and producing for you in this video. I completed a video I’ve had in my mind for about seven days. The goal is to continue with keeping things simple and down to earth so that I could help those who struggle with Beatmaker 3. I want to help you see it as a traditional DAW with bonus other features such as a wicked sampler, clip launching, and automation versus the other way around.

Beatmaker 3 Scenes Mode Guide
Author View comments Tags Tags: , , , , , ,

Hello fam. I just cracked Beatmaker 3 open for the first time this week. Being a new dad limits my time to mostly work and taking care of baby with my wife so I have to find time (usually late at night in bed with headphones) to try apps out on my pad. Anyway, at first I was a bit overwhelmed and also intimidated much like my peers. I’m a linear tracking kinda guy I mostly use Cubase and Protools for work when I write for TV so using scenes in BM 3 was at first not really something I cared to explore. Mind you I do have Ableton Live and I’ve used it several times but not for launching clips.

Honestly I had Beatmaker 1 when it came out and never got Beatmaker 2 but they were giving BM 3 away for free during the winter NAMM show so I grabbed it. At first I was like ok this looks totally alien and yet similar as well in regards to the UI and workflow. I challenged my self and said I would not watch any Youtube videos I would learn this on my own via the manual and fumbling about. I got the hang of song mode and wrote this little four bar ditty shared it on some forums and folks seemed to really dig the vibe but many commented saying that BM 3 was very intimidating and the scenes mode was baffling. This inspired me to learn scenes mode and produce a very simple to the point quick start guide with hopes to break down those barriers from some of you producers out there who struggle with the app. I hope it helps. I do plan on producing a couple more quick start guides like this one.

Once again thanks for watching and please subscribe if you haven’t already . Buying from my affiliate link is the only way I’ll get any sort of kick back since I have an ad free channel.

  • iPad Loops is a music app blog dedicated to exposing the best iPad apps for iOS musicians, producers, and Djs. This is not a database of every app. It is, however, one of useful recommendations from someone with many years in music production. I try to update it on a daily basis (ok sometimes every two days) and I do my best to post useful apps only. My name is Jason Donnelly (Dj Puzzle). You might know me from my royalty free loop packs and sound design. Some of the apps that contain my loops are Retronyms AudioCopy, LP-5, iPRO.DJSAMPLER, Looptastic, and Audio Elements. My work is published by Magix Soundtrack Loops, Sample Logic, Pakotec, Loopmasters, Acoustica, Xmix, Sound Trends, and many more.
